Meaford’s Reef Boat Club will be conducting their Sail Past ceremony on Saturday, June 14th at 1pm.

Come take a look!

• The event (weather permitting) start at 13:00 June 14th on the water.
• Sailors will be piped to our boats by the Beaver Valley Pipes and Drums Band.
• The boats will be accompanied by the Canadian Coast Guard cutter Cape
• Providence. 
• The commodore of The Reef Boat Club will be stationed on the water to bless the sailing season.
• Residents and visitors are welcomed to watch the event from the harbour break-wall.

The Reef Boat Club is group of enthusiastic boaters hanging out in our snug clubhouse overlooking Meaford Harbour and the beautiful clear waters of Georgian Bay. Our mandate is wide reaching. We’re into parties, outstanding hosted and pot-luck dinners, BBQ’s, an active (award winning) racing fleet, organized cruises, winter activities, nautical talks and a general good time.

What is ‘Sail Past’?

Naval Roots:

The Sail Past is deeply rooted in naval customs, where fleets would sail past a flagship to salute the Admiral or Commander. This practice dates back hundreds of years and was a way of demonstrating readiness and showing respect

Yacht Club Adaptation:

Yacht clubs adopted the Sail Past as a tradition to mark the beginning of the sailing season and as a way to honor the Commodore. 

Ceremony and Protocol:

In a Sail Past, a line of boats, often led by a Vice-Commodore and ending with a Rear-Commodore, sails past the Commodore’s boat, which is anchored with the Commodore and staff. Boats dip their colors, and skippers and crews salute the Commodore.
